How can I redistribute food to those who need it?

Nearly 14% of Connecticut residents are food insecure – they do not have access to healthy food throughout the year. Food Rescue US is committed to reducing hunger and food waste. Its unique model is simple, sustainable, and scalable. Volunteers pick up surplus food from food establishments such as supermarkets, restaurants, delis, and schools, and drop it off at community kitchens, food pantries, and other receiving agencies. An app will let you know what pick-ups are needed each day. Sign up to make a pick-up/ delivery at your convenience. No weekly commitments are required.

Within Westport, food is recovered from many donors and provided to social service agency partners serving the community, such as Project Return and the Gillespie Center, as well as partners in Bridgeport and Norwalk.

Currently, there are over 200 registered food rescuers in the Town of Westport! Want to join them?

STAY INFORMED

In 2021, more than 42 million people were estimated to be food insecure? At the same time, more than 40% of the U.S. food supply is wasted each year.

What if I don’t have a car?
