⚽️ What a Win! 🙌

We’re thrilled with the success of our first Play it Forward soccer gear donation & exchange! Thanks to our community, we collected ~120 pairs of cleats and shin guards and 35 soccer balls. We found new owners for about half of the collected gear at our free “shopping” events and will be donating the remaining items to the Bridgeport Field of Dreams Foundation.

Your donations kept gear out of landfills and in the game. Let’s keep the momentum going - message us to help expand Play it Forward to new sports!

Many common household items (ex. cleaners, gasoline, pesticides) are considered hazardous wastes because they contain corrosive, toxic, ignitable, or reactive ingredients. When these types of products are disposed of improperly, they can enter our water or solid waste stream, polluting the environment and jeopardizing public health 😱🌎 Swipe for a list of common hazardous chemicals you may have in your home.

Before bringing hazardous household items to the collection site please be sure to visit the @westportdpw website.

REMINDER: You can also recycle antifreeze, motor oil, batteries, fluorescent bulbs, and electronics at the Westport Transfer Station!

Sustainable Westport, in collaboration with @earthplacect, invites you to our FREE mattress/box spring recycling event on Saturday, April 26, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Earthplace.

Up to 90% of old mattresses can be transformed into new products like carpet pads, exercise equipment cushioning, and more. With more than 20 MILLION mattresses being disposed each year, help yours stay out of the landfill by being part of the zero waste solution!

🛏️ Bring your dry and unsoiled mattress and/or box spring to Earthplace during the event hours. Can't transport your old mattress? No worries! Westport's Boy Scout Troop 36 offers a pickup service for a small donation. Sign up via the link in bio.

The discussion explored how art can inspire dialogue on critical environmental challenges, and the role of infrastructure in shaping a healthier, more sustainable future.

Jo shared, "Using art as a medium to discuss sustainability and the relationship between the built world and preserving and stewarding the natural environment was inspiring. Spring soccer is just around the corner and Sustainable Westport’s Play it Forward program will help you give gear a second life! ➡️
Kids grow out of sports equipment fast. Instead of letting that perfectly good equipment gather dust or go to waste, Sustainable Westport will be collecting used soccer cleats, shin guards, and balls ⚽ Community members can then browse the donated items and “shop” for the equipment they need. It’s a true exchange program - bring what you no longer use, and take home what you do! Here is how it works:

⚽ DONATE: Gently-used unwanted soccer gear at the “Play it Forward” bins at the Westport/Weston YMCA between Friday, March 7 and Saturday, March 22

⚽ “SHOP:” At the Play it Forward Youth Soccer Donation & Exchange Event on Monday, March 24, from 4-7 p.m. at Christ & Holy Trinity Church

It is not necessary to have donated anything in order to shop — all are welcome to stop by and learn more about our efforts toward sustainability. And if you were not able to donate at the YMCA, you can always bring your donation to the shopping event on March 24. 💚

A special thank you to our collection sites, Sustainable Westport volunteers, and to both the Service League of Boys and Service League of Girls from Staples High School, who helped sort and pack your donations.
