Recognizing Westport residents and business owners who elect to prioritize sustainability

The Westport Green Building Award aims to recognize residents and business owners who elect to prioritize sustainability for their project’s design, construction, or renovation. A collaboration between the Town of Westport and Sustainable Westport, this award acknowledges significant contributions to sustainability, benefitting the town and its residents and progressing us towards our future as a Net Zero community.

Benefits

The Green Building Award is a valuable recognition for your home or commercial property, similar to being recognized as a historic landmark. As a Green Building Award recipient, your project will be honored with special recognition from Sustainable Westport and the Town of Westport and will be featured on Sustainable Westport’s website/social media and highlighted in community publications. In addition, Green Building Award winners will be invited to attend a special annual ceremony honoring their contribution to sustainability.

Eligibility

Any and all Westport properties are eligible to receive this award, regardless of the size or scope of the project. Applicants will be considered on a rolling basis and awarded throughout the year.

Guidelines

• Overall, applicants must demonstrate a significant commitment to sustainability by meeting one or more of the following criteria. Please note there is additional guidance for applicants available on our website:
• Electing to renovate/rehabilitate an existing building
• Prioritizing deconstruction and the donation of used materials and appliances
• Utilizing low/lower carbon building materials (high recycled content, timber from sustainably managed forests, avoiding RED LIST materials)
• Prioritizing energy efficiency and conservation and utilizing renewable energy sources (windows, heat pumps, geothermal, solar panels, LED lighting, energy STAR appliances, radiant floors, induction stovetops)
• Conserving and/or utilizing natural resources (rainwater irrigation, prioritizing natural light, incorporating nature in indoor design, bird-friendly glass)
• Exterior considerations: Lawn reduction, use of native plantings, recycled water drip irrigation systems
• Or any other project considerations that showcase environmental stewardship and/or innovation
