Marketing & Communications Manager
Join Sustainable Westport as a dynamic and experienced Marketing & Communications Manager, spearheading our brand-building efforts and expanding our reach. In collaboration with the Co-Directors, you will lead Sustainable Westport’s marketing and communication strategies that aim to educate and inspire action toward a greener, healthier Westport community.
This part-time role involves a blend of remote work and in-person participation, including meetings and events. Hourly rate is commensurate with skills and experience.
Job Responsibilities
- Collaborate with leadership to define brand priorities and objectives.
- Oversee Sustainable Westport’s overall content strategy, including content calendar management, asset coordination, graphic design, video creation, blog writing, and approval processes. Provide proactive ideas for new content, campaigns, and general opportunities to maximize reach and awareness. Respond and engage with Sustainable Westport followers.
- Manage Sustainable Westport’s website and web-based content, including blog posts, seasonal updates, and general maintenance.
- Create and distribute email campaigns and newsletters.
- Design marketing materials such as brochures, signage, and impact reports.
- Oversee organizational PR, including drafting press releases, publishing to community websites, and advising Sustainable Westport on official comments or statements.
- Manage advertising and other external partnerships.
- Strategize fundraising initiatives and opportunities, working collaboratively with team members.
- Provide analytics on social media, email, and website performance.
- Assist with administrative tasks and project coordination as needed.
We are seeking candidates who are articulate, highly organized, responsible, tech-savvy, and work both independently and in a team-oriented environment. Candidates should have:
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and creative problem-solving skills
- Ability to cultivate strong relationships with multiple stakeholders
- A personal commitment to addressing climate change
- A proactive approach and strong work ethic is required
- A positive attitude and commitment to working as a team player
- Comfort with cloud-based software, including Google Workspace and Microsoft Office
- Experience managing or updating websites (WordPress)
- Experience writing and creating emails and newsletters (Constant Contact)
- High-level of experience with Canva or other design software
- At least 5 years of experience planning, managing, and creating content across multiple platforms
- Ideal candidate would reside in Westport, CT, but applicants from neighboring communities are encouraged to apply

Community Engagement Manager
Time commitment: 5 hours per week
The Community Engagement Manager is dedicated to advancing Sustainable Westport’s mission by building relationships and engaging with community organizations, stakeholders, and residents. This volunteer position plays a critical role in promoting Sustainable Westport’s programs, events, initiatives, and educational materials to Westport residents. By identifying and connecting with key community partners, the Community Engagement Manager distributes informational resources, organizes outreach activities, and gathers feedback to enhance community impact. In partnership with the Co-Directors, this role will work closely with community partners to disseminate and create content aligned with our organizational and communications-specific strategies.
The Community Engagement Manager will also work closely with community partners to identify opportunities for additional brand engagement, for example, coordinating an onsite sustainability event or identifying a potential program sponsorship opportunity. This position is perfect for individuals passionate about driving positive change, fostering connections, and increasing Sustainable Westport’s presence and influence in the community.
Requirements:
- Excellent verbal, writing, and interpersonal communication skills, strong attention to detail, ability to write and deliver work under deadlines, and commitment to high-quality standards
- Basic design skills (experience with Canva preferred)
- Ability to work independently and produce written content and graphics efficiently, requiring minimal review and edits
- Westport residents preferable with an interest in sustainability and non-profit experience
